Davis House. |
|
In the 20's & 30's folks sometimes had their telephones outside, on the porch of their house.
The Davis house was one such and Mr George Davis had the great misfortune of being struck by lighting while using the phone! |

Information
Some of the names and captions below contain hyperlinks,
many of those links will take you to the
Westbrook Database that contains information
posted to the internet by Sister Yvonne (Kimbrell) Gray. The data within her
pages is based on many, many years of research, started by GGM Mallie and her
sister Martha Gibson and then carried on by Yvonne.
-
Great Grandmother Mallie (Hamrick) Kimbrell
- 9 Mar 1918 Cool Springs, Rutherford, North Carolina.
In most of the pictures on this page she is in her teens and early 20's.

Kimbrell, Joseph Ronald
Kimbrell, Benjamin
Phillip
Kimbrell, Iris Yvonne
Kimbrell, Rebecca Coleen

- Roy & Eula Christenson
- Great Grandfather Roy & GGM Eula are the parents of
Grandma Kay. They owned a dairy farm in upstate New York where they raised
their family and lots of milk cows! In later years GGF Roy sold the farm to
his son Richard, 'Dick', and then moved to Sarasota Florida for his
retirement. After a few years Dick sold the farm and moved to Sarasota as
well where he and his wife Mary Ann finished raising their children.
- Children:
Beverly June Christenson
Richard James Christenson
William Paul Christenson
Roy Walter Christenson
Eutina Eula Christenson
Karen Kay Christenson
Note: So far I am unable to locate any Genealogy Database that
includes the family of Roy & Eula, if you know of one please send me the
link... ken

Grey (James Kenneth Kimbrell Sr.)
- 2 Dec 1920 Rutherford, NC.
21 Sep 1989 Spartanburg, SC.
- This picture of Dad was taken in the mid 40's and
includes Ken, Ron & Phil.
The mule in the background was named Tip. We used him to work the farm,
plowing, planting, cultivating, pulling logs for fire wood, pulling our
wagon and other chores. We also rode him sometimes. Mules have a reputation
for being stubborn, Tip lived up to that rep!
- Children:
Same as above in GGM Mallie's list... Of course!

- Mystery Photo
- Can you guess what these folks are doing?
Two possibilities come to mind, one is that they are cooking cane into
molasses/syrup... the other possible answer is that they are cooking mash
for corn whiskey. What do you think???
Send me an
Email and let me know!
- Joe
Hamrick
- Joe Hamrick was GGM Mallie's brother and this picture was
taken during World War II. As you can see by the uniform, he served in the
US Navy during the war. His ship was sunk and he and shipmates spent some
time in the water and in life boats before being rescued. He went on to live
a long full life at the 'old home place' where GGM Mallie's Mom and Dad
lived. The link in his name takes you to a list of his
brothers/sisters/nieces/nephews.
Uncle Joe was a good man.
- Don't Laugh!
- We know that these folks are related in some way to the
Hamrick side of the family, but are not sure who they are. My only clue is
the caption 'Andrew-Julia' by the original photo. Do you have an idea who
they are? If you do then be sure to let me know.
- May 04, 2004: Some new information has been added by
Sister Yvonne & GGM Mallie:
'Julia' refers to Julia A. Hamrick and 'Andrew' is Andrew McGinnis. They
were married and the other men in the picture are his brothers. See the full
text of her message
HERE. You will also be able see any additional information as it is
found and posted.
- School Dayz!
- In both the School Dayz! and
Kay & Ginger
pictures you see GM Kay at
age 13yrs. (1958) The dog Ginger belonged to Kay's friend Kathy Ryan and like
most animals, Ginger loved GM Kay!
The older lady in the School Dayz! photo is Kathy's mom Ella and she was a
school teacher. On the day of the photos Kay and her friend Kathy were
helping Ms. Ryan take her third grade class on a picnic down by the river.
Ms. Ella Ryan was also Kay's God Mother.
