The Siding Project

11/15/05
We are getting closer!
Smaller projects (and sometimes the weather) keep interrupting the work flow on our siding
project, but the progress continues to go well. Some of the detail work that remains will take
more time than you might think because it is slow and tedious to do but we still expect to be finished
before the really bad weather sets in. We really need to get to that point now so that the house
can be painted as soon as the weather will permit next Spring.
The sliding glass door that you see on the 'old' part of the house will remain until next spring
when we will replace it with something more in keeping with the age & style of the house.
... Why would someone install a slider in a home that is over 125 years old???... beats me!!!

First update in a good while:
As you can see in the pictures the progress is good, just a little slow because of other smaller projects that came up along the way.
The siding should be completed before the weather gets too bad, then it will be ready for paint in the spring of '06.

This stack of lumber is being processed to make it ready to hang as siding.

After waiting several weeks for the freshly sawn lumber to dry a little we finally started installing the siding.
We had purchased 2,500bf of 'white' pine from the Hull Brothers saw mill in MT. Airy, NC and placed it in the barn on stickers so that it could air dry and lose some of the moisture content that it had straight from the mill.
Check out the load on this page... Tons-O-Lumber

You should see how this stuff will clog up a saw blade when it's green!
Along the way we keep getting interruptions from other chores that need doing, but progress is being made.
