House Phones and Satellite Internet.
« on: January 06, 2015, 12:24:38 PM »
House phones and satellite internet can be a big problem.  :censored:

This is a long tale, so lets start at the finish... our new house phone number is 985-3342, with the same area code as the old number.
... it should be active Thursday or Friday of this week.

This is a story nine years in the making and during that time we've been using a Windstream package that included the house phone, DSL and Dish TV. Our main complaint has always been the DSL and the fact that it was usually so slow, many times worse than dial-up internet and so we finally got fed up with excuses from Windstream and had it all turned off. Then we went with Direct TV and Hughes.net for the internet.

Now our TV reception is better and the internet is good, but there is one little issue with the Hughes.net internet connection... lag time, or 'Latency'. And that's where the house phone problem comes in. We wanted to keep the house phone and after checking out a number of options we settled on Sprint Phone Connect 3.
In theory it should work great... you plug your house phone into the little box and it turns your house phone into a cell phone, trouble is that it is not going to work inside our house because the metal roof kills the cell phone reception. So, what to do? Simple, we already have a Sprint Airave that we've been using to give us reception inside the house for our cell phones and all we need to is plug it into the Hughes.net system (the Airave needs to be on the internet to work). And now we are back to the Latency problem, it caused the phone signal to be so choppy and broken that we just could not use it, so we returned the equipment and just went with our cell phones for a few days to see how that would work. Turns out, not so good, so now we are back to a regular land-line for the house phone and it should be up by the end of this week.

Because our old number was ported over to Sprint Phone Connect from Windstream we would be required to pay a fee of almost $50.00 to get it ported back to Windstream, thus the new number.  :whistle1:

LOL! We still have a landline and refuse to give it up. It's cheaper than the cells but just not mobile.

She lives! LOL

On Feb. 15 (I think) we'll be in this house for 20 years...20 years too long. LOL
