Disposable Email Accounts
« on: August 14, 2010, 11:27:15 PM »
I've been banning a lot of spammers/hackers at SMFArcade lately. However, I've been noticing that the emails they use happen to be disposable email services. These services allow you to set up an account and the email works for 10-60 minutes, depending on the service. Then the email is deleted or rerouted to send all incoming mail to the trash.

This is great for spammers or hackers who need to validate an email for registration on a forum, blog, etc. After registration is complete then they can do their dirty deeds but still have an invalid email so you cannot contact or spam them.

I've compiled a list of the most common and most used ones available. I've set ban triggers to each of these separately, just in case a valid user has used one of these services or I have made an error. This way you can just remove one at a time without removing the entire list. Yes, it takes awhile to initially set up but is worth it cause it will automatically ban those already using these addresses and will not allow others to register with any of them.

Here's the list so far. If you have any please add to it. Please note that a couple of these are for known hacker sites and not disposable email services.

Thanks for posting this list Steve.  :2thumbs:

This email registration scam/spam is not much of an issue here on the FamilyForum because we have new registrations set for 'Admin Approval', still this information is good to know.

My "theory" is that they should be banned upon registering or not be able to register at all with those emails which should save admins a ton of work.

We've only had one time span a couple of years back where we had a heavy volume of spammers trying to sign up but it's been really quite for a long time now. But I think it would be good to install your list to the ban list anyway.  :bigthumb:

Adding these emails to the ban list one at a time is a pain.  :08:

Yes! I wish there was an easier way.

Well, there is but then you'll have to remove them all if you want to remove just one. :P

Hmmm, might have to look into a mysql query to add them? Might be easier...
