Having Fun With a Hose up my Nose!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Don’t remember for sure but I’ve likely mentioned here before that I have ‘COPD’ which means that breathing is a problem so my DR has me on inhalers and pills for the condition but she thinks that more help is needed for my condition, (I think so too) so she set me up for sleep study testing to see if a CPAP machine will help me get better sleep and in doing so improve my overall breathing issues.

Well last night the clinic did the study on me and it was a different experience to say the least. They hook you up with wires on your legs, back, chest, head and face plus there is an actual small hose up your nose and in your mouth and then they monitor what you do as you sleep for 7-8 hours… assuming that you can actually sleep! I was only able to do about 4-5 hours.  disturbed
They also have a video camera recording you the whole time.

So… While ‘Fun’ might not be exactly the right description it sure was interesting.

Oh and the results? They are going to put me on one of the machines because my breathing stopped 40-50 times per hour… that’s not a super high number of times but high enough to need the machines assistance so now I get to go to sleep each night with a hose up my nose.
…it’s actually a mask

Kitchen Remodel

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

The cabinets in our kitchen look kind of sad and GrandMa Kay wants to have them refinished so I’ve started doing a little remodel work to get ready for the cabinet guys.

Kay wants to have an island added along with more cabinets, so the refrigerator has to be relocated to the opposite side of the room… only trouble with doing that is that the refrigerator would have stuck out past the corner of the wall.

The solution was simple, make the wall stick out further! disturbed

As part of the process this wall needed to be opened up to do some rewiring and we discovered that part of the wall support  structure was a railroad track! That should hold up the second story of the house just fine. bigthumb
