Sausage Gravy and Biscuits
« on: April 29, 2012, 08:48:12 AM »
An old standby. I just got finished making these.  :08:

Serves: 8

Ingredients:
1 can (16 ounces) refrigerated jumbo buttermilk biscuits (8 biscuits)
1 pkg. (16oz) roll sausage
1/4 cup flour
2 1/2 cups milk
Salt and ground black pepper to taste

Directions:
1.  Bake biscuits according to package directions.

2.  Meanwhile, cook sausage in large skillet over medium heat 5-6 minutes or until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently.  Stir in flour. Gradually add milk; cook until mixture comes to a boil and thickens, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Season with salt and pepper.

3.  Split biscuits in half.  Place 2 halves on each of 8 plates; top with about 1/3 cup gravy.

Tips:
Add onions, peppers, and/or mushrooms when browning the sausage.

You can also replace the roll sausage with the equivalent size of links or rope sausage. Just remove the skin before cooking.

My favorite way it too scramble it up in eggs, haven't had it for a while... sounds good for the weekend.

I rarely get a chance to eat it. But a few weeks ago they had 1 lb. packs of it on sale for .98c!!! So I got 2 of them...should have got more, and I froze them.

I've never tried it in scrambled eggs but have tried pretty much everything else in eggs. LOL Actually, I'll only eat my eggs scrambled or like an omelet/frittata.
