Title: Craftsy Online Classes
Post by: Skhilled on March 11, 2017, 01:42:28 PM
Lealer's been going here for years for sewing and watches the videos all of the time. I'd gotten an email from King Arthur Flour and it had info about a bread baking class so I checked it out. I knew Craftsy was all about crafts, sewing, things along those lines but never knew it had anything about baking. After viewing some of the classes and seeing that they were marked down to only $20 per class I decided to get 2 of them:

Watched the bread making preview and it looks like a good way to improve your skills.

I've been sitting here watching the first one for awhile now off and on while doing other things. Since it is a "beginner" class I thought it would be more of a refresher for me. But I was surprised at the things I did learn! I lot of it I already knew but they explained things very thoroughly and gave a lot of great tips!

They have an ongoing discussion and you can see people asking questions in a sidebar on the right side of the screen. You can even join in on others conversations and answer the questions, etc. or ask your own questions. You can also add notes which kind of act like bookmarks. You write in your notes at a certain point in the video and it will be there for you at anytime! You can easily go to the bookmarks from a menu at the top of the screen and also go straight to any questions that only you asked.

For the recipes, you can download them in .pdf format as well as lists for any tools/supplies you may need. It's very well thought out and designed well. You can also watch the classes on any device you have.

I'm almost halfway through watching the first class but it was $40 well spent!!!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that in this class they start with a master dough recipe that makes a sandwich loaf. Then go to a lean bread (without butter and sugar) then an oil-enriched bread making breadsticks and focaccia and more. Throughout each bread making process they start from the beginning and what ingredients to add, how to mix, etc. so the process gets in your head. They do not take an approach like "we already went over this in a previous lesson so go to that one if you need a refresher" type of deal. Each lesson of the class goes over the same steps again as if they are starting fresh. The only changes are the ingredients, how you shape the bread, proofing times, maybe some different tools/techniques, and baking times.
