Our Nephew, Keith, was up from Florida to visit with us here in Tobaccoville last week and the two of us worked to make a pen for him. It was his first experience at pen making and we both enjoyed working on the lathe and making his pen.
Ps: Just for fun, here's my 'script' for the movie. laughing7
Keith’s Pen
… Insert Title clip.
… Insert clip of me doing the intro.
We begin by mounting a couple of Purple Heart blanks and turning them to shape for a Slim Line kit from Pen State Industries.
… Insert turning videos here and include clips about the instruction.
… Insert clips of the sanding process.
1/ Next we sand the blanks, starting at 220 and going through the grits up to 1000.
2/ Then we build up our finish by applying 4-5 coats of thin CA glue and then wet sanding with Micro-Mesh. We repeat this process five times and on the fifth application we lay on 3 coats of the thin CA without doing any sanding. We make this our final finish and go on to assembling the kit.
3/ And, lastly, Keith gets to show off his pen!
… Insert clip of Keith showing his finished pen.
Done!

For well over a year now I've not really worked in the shop very much. My energy levels have been rather sad, but with the inspirational boost that Keith's visit provided I managed to do much more than I expected! shocked003

Sometimes you just need a little inspiration. ;)
