I've never considered the microwave trick. I do know that if a dish is placed in the center it will heat more on the bottom and outsides of the foods than evenly throughout. But after see this it does make more sense and will need to try it.

However, I do also use a cover when heating up foods in the microwave which helps to heat things more evenly. I'll have to test this over the next week or so to see which is better. :)
