High Speed Internet?
« on: August 02, 2021, 03:24:55 PM »
Currently we have Hughes.net as our ISP and our '30 GB Plan' comes with 30 GB's of data(capped) per month and a speed of up to 25 Mbps. On a good day we might get 10-12 Mbps, but those good days are rare and as you can see in the image below, this ain't one of them good days.

So, we are going to try Windstream again because they are out with some new equipment that is supposed to be better than that which we had some years ago. When we had it before, (2005-06?) it was advertised as 3 Mbps but it was glitchy and the hovered around 1 Mbps, or less so we dumped the service and went with Hughes.net.

This time Windstream is offering up to 12 Mbps and with a house phone included and it's about half of what we are paying for Hughes.net for just the ISP. The installer is working on the new service lines now and he tells me that on the 12Mbps we can expect about 1.5 - 2.0 because we are so far out into the countryside... that's about what I expected and so we are going to give it a try for 30 days and if it will do at-least 1.0 to 1.5 we'll keep it because that would be as good as what we have now for lots less money.

BTW... that upload speed is crazy!

Windstream running good!  laughing7
Last evening and still this early AM, the Windstream is doing OK. The speed is not blazing fast but it clocks in at about 5-10 Mbps and that's way fast in comparison to Hughes.net.

Yeah, my Verizon is about the the same. It's mostly due to them upgrading the lines and placing the blame game. The ISP's say the city should pay for it and vice versa. So, the city is talking about starting their own service to get around them. Benn talking about just before the pandemic but then everything slowed down, of course.

That might be a good plan, cities and states can do good when delivering services, if they can be kept from being bloated and mismanaged.
