Got mine set to auto update, so it checks each time I open it. I have used the Notepad++ for several years now and although I've tried others, Notepad++ has always been my favorite and the one that is used for almost anything.

I have mine set like that as well, but it didn't tell me there was an update.  Unless perhaps I dismissed it without thinking, that's a habit of mine.  Did that with Filezilla for several versions, basically because I just because I needed to get on with what I was doing at the time.  I have now updated both.

When I see an update I usually do it then, especially if it's a security release. Once in awhile I don't right away if I'm really busy but do it as soon as possible.

The downside to upgrading is if it's a large upgrade and will take awhile and slows everything down.

And, on some rare occasions some products screw up an update. (windows?) 

I was just looking, trying to figure out just how long I've been using this Notepad++ and according to Wikipedia it has been around from November 24, 2003... hard to say how long it's been for me, but it was early on.
