These software looks promising but needs a nutritional facts list for the recipes. That would be great.

More details in them would be good of course... this last one that Les posted seems the best so far on layout and detail.

One point for me on all of them is the member base thing, there's no way to tie them into the forum membership so you would have to figure out some way to handle that... not a real big problem, but something to sort out.

This one looks good Les.

Just been reading the read me file and it dose seem a little more difficult to install... did you have any big issues on yours?

And what about the admin part after it's up and running, it sounds like you must do edits on the actual files, is there no 'admin panel'?

It does have an admin panel, but its not directly accessible from the first page, only by adding it to the url, and I found a way to add recipes fast, but cant tell you how here ;)

OH and most if not all edits are made from setup.dat file, and it is quite easy to work out too

the only thing I cant sort is the sendmail yet, got me stuck on that oneĀ  :thud:

This one again doesn't need registration, but can be turned off/on in the admin section, again I have not worked that one out yet  :undecided2:

Maybe we could post on SMF and ask if someone will write a recipe mod.

I've been thinking of that for a couple of days now, trying to come up with ways that such a mod could be used so that it would be more appealing to the mod maker as well as SMF forum owners. In other words, different ways that such a mod could be used on a forum beyond just for recipes.

Or maybe there's a mod already available that could be adapted?

EDIT: Actually, this last one is really nice, so I'm gonna contact the NBDesign people and see if they have any interest in coding it to work with SMF.  :08:

Found another recipe program I thought I would try out for you'll to see this one doesn't come with any recipes in, but got a few in it feel free to grab some, any ways here it is.

Just one note this is a cgi program/script not php, and was a little harder to install, it doesn't have sgl data base but a flat file database  :boring: the script is here

Hey Les... got this one up and running for it's start page, but when trying to go to a 'sub' page it wants to add "cgi-bin/" to the address string and that breaks the link. So far I'm not figuring out the file edit needed to fix this... any ideas?

Thanks

I did a copy/paste for my link edits and included the extra code.  :innocent:

OK, it's up and running now.

Les if you register on the cookbook I'll set you as a moderator so we can see how that works... don't see anyway to set you as an admin.

EDIT: Got it sorted... once the registration is completed the admin member group becomes available in the "Modify user accounts" screen.

Don't see how it works yet Les... everything for new member registration is turned on it the admin panel but its not showing for guests, it also lets anyone post a recipe who tries.
Got to read the docs again to see if there's some edit that needs to be made, trouble is the docs are short on detail.  :undecided2:

As you may have noticed I moved all of the recipes that you and Steve have posted into this new cookbook and posted them under your names. If you have any more you want to post you should be able to do so, I did a couple of test posts as a guest and it worked OK.

UR welcome.  :bigthumb:
The staff boards should be open to you now.

Umm strange mine is the same too, not sure how it works myself!

The cookbook website ignored my other email to them... gonna try it again on the registration question. They may have removed or disabled that function in this free (older) release of their software to try to get you to buy the current version.

For now we'll be able to use it to post recipes without being able to register or log in.

Ps: I've got a help request into my host trying to find the correct settings to get the email notices working, let you know how that turns out.

I got the email working now, just had to change the setting in the admin, you need to put the path to Sendmail
mine is  /usr/sbin/sendmail this also needs to be changed in the setup file
