After ripping out several of the tile panels and not seeing any improvement in the layout I decided to rip out the entire mess and let the pro's do the job. We already have someone coming to measure for carpet on Thursday, so I called and had them include the bathroom floor in the estimate.

It will cost several hundred's of dollars more, but the job will be done right. The bad thing about this bathroom floor is that it's the first thing you see as you reach the top of the stairs, so no matter how good the rest of the rooms look, a crappy job on that floor would ruin the whole second level.

It's funny how you notice things that no one else does (or cares about) in your own house. LOL

Just out of curiosity Ken, where did you start laying the tiles? bit late now I know, but I was always told to start from the center of the room! and work outwards.

That was my first mistake Les... but it would be messed up anyways because although I had chalked lines to keep the runs strait they did not stay strait and evenly spaced.

Probably the room is not straight, so it would be harder to fit I think, mind you Lisa has been waiting 2 year for me to fit her hardwood floor    :innocent: :thud:

The new tile is in, but we had a bit of an issue with the installer... he is saying that the stuff on the walls was already there and that he wasn't going to clean it up.  :thud:

What do you think?

So is there no base that's going to cover any of that lower stuff up? If you have pictures to show the before/after, why not show them to him? :)

It's a long story Brad.  :wink2:

It's probably best that I don't post all of the details here, but basically the guy ended up having a hysterical, yelling fit because I asking him to clean the walls. And yes, I tried to show him the 'before' pics but he was so wound up by then he didn't want to see them.

It turned out OK in the end, the install company sent one of their managers out along with a different tile crew and they fixed to all up. (I'll post pics of that in a little while)
The clean up was not that big of a deal, but the guy pitching a fit was rather traumatic for Kay, for me and for Jake and Minnie.

And, as for the trim, it will be getting a two inch base and that should finish it out nicely.

Well, did you threaten to kick his butt or what? lol

Glad to hear the company did the right thing. I hope the Boss gave him an earful for treating clients that way. The tile looks nice though. I bet you'll be glad to have another bathroom open for business.

Actually the companies Boss/Owner called me to apologize and to promise to make everything right. I was rather surprised the issue had reached to his level because this is a fairly large company that is based near Atlanta and I think they do all of Home Depots flooring installs for many of the south eastern States as you can see in the map below.

Everyone was trying very hard to make us feel better and to resolve the issue and so we don't have any complaints about their efforts to fix things... the new crew that they sent out cleaned up the other guys mess in about 10 minutes and did a really good job. Plus, the lady that manages the company's local (Greensboro) office came out as well and she was great. And the lady that we deal with all the time at the Home Depot was really good as well and made sure that she kept up with everything that was happening. Everyone involved was good except for that one guy pitching a fit when I asked if he was going to clean up after himself.

The story is much more exciting than what I've posted here, but some of the details are not fit for public posting.  :08:

EDIT: No Brad... I didn't threaten to kick his butt!  :yikes:
He's probably 40+ years younger than I am, so chances are that would not have worked out very well.

Here are some after the cleanup pics, in the one you can see a sample piece of the trim that's going in soon.
