Title: Updating Crip Zone Themes
Post by: Skhilled on February 11, 2019, 01:42:06 AM
I started working on updating the themes when the RC1 pre-release was in Github. A few days later they released RC1 so I figured I should start over in cause of any major code changes that may affect my work. RC1 does contain a number of bugs according to others. I've only found a few but have not really looked for any just yet...too busy working on the themes.

I 've been working on one theme but had problems and then switched to trying another hoping it would be easier. After a few days I was informed that I needed to disable minify JS anf jQuery in the admin while updating themes then things started falling into place. Here's the original theme using SMF 2.0.15:

https://skhilled.com/smftest/index.php

And here's what I'm working on in 2.1 RC1:

https://skhilled.com/smfrc1/index.php

There's still a ways to go before completion but I'm getting there and learning a lot!  8) I may even change a couple of things to keep up with the times but they will mostly stay the same.

Thanks! I don't think I've got much farther to go with this particular one. This is something I've been wanting to do for some time but have been far too busy to get started. I wish I had more time when Maxx was around cause he was great at it! There's a ton of themes to do! LOL

Well, got the home page looking good! :) Just having problems with the topics pages. But shouldn't be long before it's done...I hope. LOL Once I get the theme right I'll make upshrinks, etc. for TP. I may also convert these themes for myBB...after I get the SMF ones on track.

Thanks, guys! Been spending most of my time doing this for the past week or so and not much else. Currently, I'm stuck at a few parts. :P

Once I get one part looking the way I want it inadvertently screws up something else cause the code is connected together somehow. LOL

This reminded me that we don't have any of Jeff's themes installed here on OFF, so I snagged Ornament and uploaded it.

Got over my largest hurdle which was category item alignment and height. I've also added the posting icons which SMF chose to remove for 2.1. Have a look, it now has a similar look (minus the images and colors) to most of Jeff's themes including this one:

As opposed to the default, Cruves2:

Looks good and looks to be coming together nicely and the Info Center menu icons are really nice. Are you using that new screen capture app that you've found?

Have a look and tell me what you guys think. It even has a new logo for it, thanks to Les. LOL

Just about completed and will be zipping it up very soon!

I am having a problem with the logo position in responsive mode.  :(

Looking good!

BTW... my page load times are still really long here on OFF, the 'Page created' sez 0.044 seconds but the real-time is well over a minute. :)

I still think it's something on your end cause it doesn't happen to me and I have only DSL speeds...no true high speed/broadband.

Try clearing your browser's cache.

I had already tried that with no help but just tried it again and the slow times are still there. Having the same issue on ChripZone but not on Docskills.

Is there a certain time that you are experiencing this? I view the sites several times throughout the night when I'm on break at work and when I'm home but haven't had that issue yet.

Speed for this site seems pretty good to me as well. Certainly not what I'd call slow by any means.

I'm very curious to find out what's causing this. Once in a while the sites seem a tad slow...maybe 3-5 seconds but not much longer than that for me and that's rarely.

I don't think that it's the time of day, seems to always be the same no matter the time. I've also tried different browsers and it's the same with all of the other's as well.

All of the sites run very well...knock on wood. LOL Has to be something on your end but can't figure out what.

Try this... Type "cmd" in the Windows search in the taskbar. It will show you the command prompt. To the right you should see "Run as Administrator", click it and it should open and has a little black popup window with a command prompt. Type:

ipconfig /flushdns

Then press enter. You may need to reboot. then see what happens. This is an old DOS command that will clear the DNS settings on your PC and those it has stored. I do it a few times per year...when I remember (lol) or am having problems with sites and can't figure out the problem.

Ok, just been reminded by Chen Zhen that he coded a PHP 7.2 compatibility mod and the license allows others to distribute it which is why it is on smfhacks. However, the one on smfhacks is only compatible with SMF 2.1 and not 2.0.x.

The one on Chen's site is only compatible with SMF 2.0.x and can be found here:

https://web-develop.ca/index.php?action=downloads;area=stable_smf_modifications;file=48

I've installed the mod on https://skhilled.com/smftest to PHP 7.2 and it works without any errors and much faster! Yeah!

Made a few changes, does it seems faster now?

No, sadly it seems to be about the same.

Can't figure this one out. Have you talked to your ISP lately?

Not in some time now, Hughesnet is not very useful for solving issues of any kind, so I don't hold out much hope on that front. :)

Actually... it is a little faster, but still really slow to load.

I wonder if since we've upgraded the php for this site it may be affecting an old mod you have installed. But the weird thing is that no one else is experiencing this issue which makes me think it's something on your end. did you try the trick I've mentioned?

Yes, when you first posted that hack I gave it a go, but it didn't seem to have any effect.

Now I'm really stumped...

EDIT: You do have a large amount of old mods installed. Me thinks it could be one of those... But why are only YOU experiencing this???

I need to do some serious research on my end, lately, but I've been a little to sick for doing much mental thrashing.

Maybe uninstall the mods one at a time to see if that's the issue?

That would be the best way but also the most hard as you've probably got to check manually to see if the code for each has been installed or uninstalled.
