SMF Beta Testing.
« on: July 05, 2010, 04:58:58 PM »
Sooo... seems that GPa just got selected to be a Beta tester for the SMF software that we use here on the FamilyForum.   :yikes:

They must not know what they are in for now!  :hah:

A little snip from their PM:
Quote
We fully appreciate your assistance with support and playing with various mods, and generally the feedback you provided about software. Seeing that, we would like to propose you a beta testing position.
What it involves: testing the latest versions of the software, in the measure of your available time, and provide feedback on them, on any feature or issue you may be interested in/discovered/prefer, report bugs and if you wish, take part into discussing them. It offers a few tools to do that, like write access to the SMF bug tracker, read access to svn repository, and access to a special board for beta testing discussion.

Sweet! This has been a big thing lacking at SMF for a very long time. I think the attitudes are slowly changing over there for the better. In the past the software has been so guarded and secretive, I really hope they open up and share the beta testing and development a little more.
I love cheese cake.

TBH, I don't think that I'm going to be very helpful or useful for this assignment because in all of my reading of the posts and posted bugs it seems that they are dealing with code errors for the most part and I'm not much of a coder of course.

Some of the bugs deal with actual user functions, like searching, using BBC, etc... but a lot of it is the code stuff.  :thud:

Well, that's because they are at the stage of getting to a stable release. You at least have access to early releases and stuff.  Knowing what you're skills are Ken, I would just look for visual and functional bugs. You have a knack for seeing those things from what I've seen in the past.
I love cheese cake.

LOL!

Yeah, you'll get your hands dirty soon enough. :)

btw, check and see if there is a bug report about copying and pasting posts in RC3. Sometimes, when I copy and paste there are extra spaces added.

Haven't seen anything on C&P so maybe it has been fixed... but I'm still trying to do a lot of reading and catching up so I don't know really.

Hmmm, I've tried it here and it doesn't do it here like I said but does do it at SMF Arcade and on my sites. I've noticed it on other sites as well. You have to use a quote with more than one line and perhaps some smileys???

Don't know about that Steve, but I'll give it a try in a 'test topic' to see how a longer post behaves when quoted.

Yes, I can't replicate it here.  :undecided2:

Could be something installed at those sites, perhaps?

Maybe so.
Have you tried posting it on SMF yet?
