Title: WD Mass Storage+PS4+T150 Pro!
Post by: Ken on May 08, 2018, 07:47:01 PM
... shoulda done this a long time ago!

I collect movies and such on my PC's and they were packed full of those movies and pics and home/family vids and various other bits of jetsam and flotsam. So, time for some real storage space!

Here's what I just got to store all my stuff.
WD 4TB Black My Passport  Portable External Hard Drive (https://www.amazon.com/Black-Passport-Portable-External-Drive/dp/B01LQQH86A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1525822581&sr=8-3&keywords=western+digital+4tb+my+passport)

It's working good so far, moved about 50 Gigs over to the new drive and it worked nice.

EDIT: ...to change the title.
Because we started talking about the PS4 I thought about splitting the topic or starting a new one, but settled on a topic title change instead.  :azn:

My son, Brandon, had bought a red 1TB one (same brand) about a month ago for his Play Station 4 to hold his games and updates on.

I ordered a PS4 at the same time, but may send it back. Two reasons for that... first is the fact that there is no support for my steering wheel (Logitech PlayStation 3 Driving Force GT (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-PlayStation-Driving-Force-Racing-3/dp/B0015HYPOO/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1526025504&sr=8-8&keywords=ps3+steering+wheel)) and second, the Gran Turismo Sport (https://www.amazon.com/Gran-Turismo-Sport-PlayStation-4/dp/B01FT72NOO/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1526025651&sr=1-2&keywords=gt%2Bsport%2Bps4&th=1) driving game that I ordered to go with the new PS4 requires a 20gig update to be downloaded before you can play the game. With my internet connection that is a deal killer.  :-\

Yes, a lot of the updates for te games now can be as large as 10-20GB! My son play the PS4 a lot and there's always updates foe games he plays. Older games require less space but the newer ones area killer!  He's always tying up the net connection because of upgrades. Or, he's bought a new game through the PS4 and needs to be downloaded then updated! WTH???

I need to move somewhere where they have good, fast net speeds.

The GT Sports saga turns out to be even worse!
The game's features all (99%) require that the console be online for game play and for someone who is on a metered connection, like mine, this is an outlandish situation. Even after the update was finally downloaded and installed the game cannot be played unless your are online and consuming your data allotment.
To be clear, even single player gameplay and content is only possible while online, so if a rain storm interrupts your satellite internet connection then your game is not available.

I try to avoid games like that. I don't have a metered connection but some of the games I play on Steam requires a net connection. Another thing I don't like about games today is they are mostly not hard copies and you must download them to play them. Most start at about 20GB!

BAMmmm!!! (https://www.gamestop.com/accessories/thrustmaster-t150-pro-limited-edition-racing-wheel/131351)  :hah!:

(https://tinypix.top/images/2018/05/17/Hncr.md.jpg) (https://tinypix.top/i/Hncr)

So... final decision, sent back the GT Sport game, then went to GameStop and picked up a Thrustmaster T150 Pro and a used copy of Project Cars (https://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/project-cars/120319).
Now me just gotta learn to use them, the game is new to me, but it'll come to me OK, but the wheel will take some study because the setup and the adjustments need some serious refining. Lots of good help online tho, so it will work out OK after a few days.

As it happens... I did that with my old Logitech Driving Force GT. (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Logitech-Driving-Force-GT/53662717?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222227044001836&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=87172585369&wl4=pla-193661596849&wl5=9009558&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=53662717&wl13=&veh=sem) That's why it has a bungee cord to help with the brake peddle return.  laughing7

This T150 has a brake peddle mod included and when you install it you get a progressive resistance on the peddle that feels a little more realistic and one side effect is that it helps to keep you from smashing the peddle so hard that you damage the  potentiometer.

This video shows how it works. (go to about 5:30 in the vid for the mod)

I remember you posting about breaking the pedal and installing the bungee cord. LOL

This one seems a lot more updated.

Yes... it is.  :)

While researching these peddles and the mods for the brake I found this interesting way to do a fix:
