WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --
Mayor Allen Joines has declared a period of civic mourning to honor the life and service of Police Sgt. Mickey Hutchens.

The mourning period will take place from Oct. 13 through Oct. 16.

Hutchens passed away at Wake Forest Baptist University Medical Center on Monday from gunshot wounds he received after responding to a domestic call on Wednesday at Bojangles restaurant in the 1500 block of Silas Creek Parkway.
