We are getting some great recipes posted in the "Fine Food & Gourmet Cooking (http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?action=tpmod;rvws;sa=viewcat;id=45)" section of the Reviews boards, so be sure to check them out. :bigthumb:
My favs so far are the Marinated Dogs (http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?action=tpmod;rvws;sa=viewitem;id=58) and Philly Cheese Steak with a Twist (http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?action=tpmod;rvws;sa=viewitem;id=60)
-
Thanks, there are many more to come. ;)
EDIT: I used to have cooking software that automatically showed you the Nutritional Fact and would print the labels but it only works for XP. I upgraded to Vista so I don't think it'll work. I'll have to find another one. :(
-
HEY!! Why is this in Humor??? LOL

HEY!! Why is this in Humor??? LOL
Err... cause it's funny? :disted:
It was supposed to be in Chit Chat, so I'll move it. :wink2:
-
LOL!!! Entertaining and nutritious!
-
You are posting some great recipes Steve. :bigthumb:
We really need to have an option for printing the page in the Reviews Module.
-
Oh, I didn't realize there wasn't one. But you can highlight the text then go to File -> Print in your browser. Then select "Selection" instead of "All" under "Print Range". This will only print what your have selected or highlighted. ;)
Keep in mind that your print options might be different but I believe they should still be the same or very similar. You might not get the header/title, though.
Might be better to make them articles instead...
-
Oh, I didn't realize there wasn't one.
Might be better to make them articles instead...
I've been thinking that over for a few days now... and now that we've started to have lots of recipes posted (mostly yours ) it looks like a much more appealing option, not only because of the print icon but also because there's an html editor available in an article.
If I set up a category for recipes are you up for reposting your existing entries as articles? I know you've put a lot of work into them already, but if I do the articles it will list them in my name.
BTW... you deserve a big thank you for what you've already posted, those are some great recipes that you've shared with the family. :bigthumb:
-
Here's a preliminary workup on how the category could look:
http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?page=178 (http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?page=178)
-
I added one here (http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?action=tpmod;rvws;sa=viewitem;id=74) :bigthumb:

Good job Les, me gonna try this one. :bigthumb:
EDIT: Les could you submit this recipe as an html article so I can do further testing on that approach? Thanks. :disted:
-
OK Ken I have done that :bigthumb:
-
while we on the subject of Recipes I wonder if you would like to use this converter I have here (http://www.lesmonds.co.uk/forum/conversions.htm) just grab the source code and place it in an artcle :bigthumb:
-
Here's the index:
http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?page=178 (http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?page=178)
We need a little short blurb to go under the link on the index page to describe the recipe. :08:
I like your unit converter and it's already in use on the index page. riteon
-
Do we need some kind of file/folder installed to the site for the converter to work? It looks OK but is not returning an answer.
-
I had to put mine in its own html page for it to work for some reason, then I used an Iframe in the article
-
OK, I'll try that. :wink2:
-

Thank you, thank you! I knew there was something I had wanted to talk to Bloc about for a long time and that was it. It has always bugged me to no end that category blocks do not show the original author. They only show the site owner and the article creator.
On my site RebelRose and Lord Anubis had created a few articles and I had always wanted their names on their articles. Les had shown me a work around. It was to create an html block and manually create the links. I wasn't too fond of this but it worked.
I've meant to post that in the requested features topic for almost a year now. LOL
BTW... you deserve a big thank you for what you've already posted, those are some great recipes that you've shared with the family. :bigthumb:
You're welcome. Lot's more are coming. ;)
-
You are welcome. :disted:
Thats one thing that would be a great help for an administrator, the ability to easily change 'ownership' for things like TP articles would make it so much simpler. I don't know what kind coding issues it would cause for Bloc but I know that it can be done because in the SMF Gallery Pro that option exists... the admin only needs to pull up the edit screen for an image and the ownership can be changed there. (the newly assigned owner can then do edits to that image) Works great. :bigthumb:
Hopefully Bloc can add this option to an upcoming release.
-
I just posted it in the proper board. ;)
-
I just posted it in the proper board. ;)
I saw that. :bigthumb:
-
I found another recipes script, set it up here http://www.lesmonds.co.uk/cook/index.php (http://www.lesmonds.co.uk/cook/index.php) this does not require any log in, can be downloaded here http://www.cookdojo.com/cookdojo_home.php (http://www.cookdojo.com/cookdojo_home.php)
-
This one has some possibilities. :disted:
For the login part it... maybe could be placed in an article that was only visible to members?
Just wondering about the security part of having it be open to anyone.
Ps: I'm still not getting the converter to work. :cry2:
-

That is strange, I seen to remember I had some probs with it too, but for the life of me I cant remember what it was!!
Try this in an article....

Got it working using your code and link, I'm just doing something wrong or leaving out a step in my install.

unless its the copy and paste let me post the code here, dont forget there are no body or head tags...

Got it! :yahoo:
While you were doing that code I had realized what I was doing wrong; it needed to be saved to the site as a webpage and then pull that page into the article.
Yes, I'm slow! :thud:
Thanks for the help on that one Les.
EDIT: And yes... I saw where you had already told me to do the webpage thingie. :08:
-
lol glad you got it sorted Ken. and glad to of helped
-
Found another recipe program I thought I would try out for you'll to see this one doesn't come with any recipes in, but got a few in it feel free to grab some, any ways here (http://www.lesmonds.co.uk/cooking/recipe.cgi) it is.
Just one note this is a cgi program/script not php, and was a little harder to install, it doesn't have sgl data base but a flat file database :boring: the script is here (http://www.nbdesign.com/product_detail.asp?product_id=4)
-
This one looks good Les.
Just been reading the read me file and it dose seem a little more difficult to install... did you have any big issues on yours?
And what about the admin part after it's up and running, it sounds like you must do edits on the actual files, is there no 'admin panel'?
-
These software looks promising but needs a nutritional facts list for the recipes. That would be great.
-

More details in them would be good of course... this last one that Les posted seems the best so far on layout and detail.
One point for me on all of them is the member base thing, there's no way to tie them into the forum membership so you would have to figure out some way to handle that... not a real big problem, but something to sort out.

It does have an admin panel, but its not directly accessible from the first page, only by adding it to the url, and I found a way to add recipes fast, but cant tell you how here ;)
OH and most if not all edits are made from setup.dat file, and it is quite easy to work out too
the only thing I cant sort is the sendmail yet, got me stuck on that oneĀ :thud:

This one again doesn't need registration, but can be turned off/on in the admin section, again I have not worked that one out yet :undecided2:
-
Maybe we could post on SMF and ask if someone will write a recipe mod.
I've been thinking of that for a couple of days now, trying to come up with ways that such a mod could be used so that it would be more appealing to the mod maker as well as SMF forum owners. In other words, different ways that such a mod could be used on a forum beyond just for recipes.
Or maybe there's a mod already available that could be adapted?
EDIT: Actually, this last one is really nice, so I'm gonna contact the NBDesign people and see if they have any interest in coding it to work with SMF. :08:

Hey Les... got this one up and running for it's start page, but when trying to go to a 'sub' page it wants to add "cgi-bin/" to the address string and that breaks the link. So far I'm not figuring out the file edit needed to fix this... any ideas?
Thanks

NM... Got it. :disted:
I did a copy/paste for my link edits and included the extra code. :innocent:

Les if you register on the cookbook I'll set you as a moderator so we can see how that works... don't see anyway to set you as an admin.
EDIT: Got it sorted... once the registration is completed the admin member group becomes available in the "Modify user accounts" screen.
-

I dont see a registration screen Ken so how do you register ?
-
Don't see how it works yet Les... everything for new member registration is turned on it the admin panel but its not showing for guests, it also lets anyone post a recipe who tries.
Got to read the docs again to see if there's some edit that needs to be made, trouble is the docs are short on detail. :undecided2:
As you may have noticed I moved all of the recipes that you and Steve have posted into this new cookbook and posted them under your names. If you have any more you want to post you should be able to do so, I did a couple of test posts as a guest and it worked OK.
-
Umm strange mine is the same too, not sure how it works myself!
-
ohh I just noticed my new badge kool riteon
-
ohh I just noticed my new badge kool riteon
UR welcome. :bigthumb:
The staff boards should be open to you now.
Umm strange mine is the same too, not sure how it works myself!
The cookbook website ignored my other email to them... gonna try it again on the registration question. They may have removed or disabled that function in this free (older) release of their software to try to get you to buy the current version.
For now we'll be able to use it to post recipes without being able to register or log in.
Ps: I've got a help request into my host trying to find the correct settings to get the email notices working, let you know how that turns out.
-
I got the email working now, just had to change the setting in the admin, you need to put the path to Sendmail
mine is /usr/sbin/sendmail this also needs to be changed in the setup file
-
Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work on mine.
-
Got a reply from the folks at NBDesign.
That has never been implemented with that version. Also that version is no longer supported or updated, it has been replaces with the ASP version which is a far superior program.
In other words... buy the pro version. :disted:
-
lol most sites dont run windows most are linux
-
Thanks Becky!
Becky just posted a great Mac & Cheese recipe. riteon
Ultimate Mac & Cheese (http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/cookbook/recipe.cgi?action=view_recipe&id=1270&recipe=Ultimate+Mac+&+Cheese&category=Easy+Side+Dishes)
EDIT: Fixed the link.
-
Wrong link, Ken, and thanks for the new badge. :)
I remember seeing some open source online cooking software awhile back. Might be able to find it at SourceForge or FreshMeat.
So we are to put the recipes into the new recipe software and not articles, correct?
EDIT: btw, I've just found a PC-based software that works pretty good. Too bad it's not web-based.
http://www.bigoven.com/recipe-software.aspx (http://www.bigoven.com/recipe-software.aspx)
-
Fixed the link.
I'll take a look at that one Steve.
So we are to put the recipes into the new recipe software and not articles, correct?
Yes.
We can still keep an eye out for a better free program, but for recipes this one seems best so far (imho).
I actually like articles better in some ways, the trouble is that most regular members would need a form or guide of some kind to post their recipes because most of them aren't able to put in the kind of time needed for learning all of the detail the way that you or I do. So for now the CookBook program is it because of the ease of use and the search ability.
-
Agreed. :)
