Title: FamilyForum Blogs Re-Activated
Post by: Ken on February 23, 2010, 03:02:09 PM
The FamilyForum Blogs have been re-activated!  :2thumbs:

They were off for some time because of the forum software updates we've been going through and I got kind of sidetracked and didn't do the file edits needed to get the blog software integrated into the forum system, but it's all better now.  :bigteeth:

All FF members are entitled to have your own Blog pages, all you need do is click on the Blogs link at the top of the forum page, select the "Create your Blog" link and then enable your blog as seen in the two screenshots below. There are lots of settings and options for you the play around with, including posting your blog for all to see, or setting it so that only you can see it.

I encourage each of you to give it a try, your entries can be about anything from the serious to the funny... you can read some of my old ones for inspiration if you like.
Enjoy...  :08:

Where are the links to the blogs??? I can't seem to find them.

Hey Rose, look for the button on the links bar at the top of each page. I'll add the link to the set in the top right corner of each page as well.
Here's the url:
http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?action=pmxblog (http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?action=pmxblog)

Not able to find any issues in the settings so I've posted a help request on the Blog site.
Members get 'Database Error' when trying to activate blog. (http://portamx.com/topic_1558.0.html)

It appears we are missing a value in the db structure.
Now I just have to figure out how to get that entry into the db table.
Please check your table pmxblog_manager id the colum hidebaronedit exist.
If not create this after the colum blogcreated
Colum definition: hidebaronedit int(11) NOT NULL default 0

What the... That woman! She should have given you an updated db file or query to run to fix it. That is why I don't use her mods. If she doesn't know is one thing but the mod still needs to be fixed. I'll bet there was no mention of that.

Do you need instructions on this?

The quote that's in my msg above is the full response from her to my question.  :disted:

Yepp, I need to know how to insert that column into the db table.

Fixed!  :08:
... Please try to activate your blog to make sure it works.

Just checked her site and found that antechinus had posted some directions... worked good.
Quote from: antechinus
Select the "Structure" tab. Underneath the table of information there is an option to add fields. By default it says "add 1 field at end of table". You can just select "Go" as it doesn't matter where in the table the extra column is added.

This will open up a list into which you add the characteristics of the column you wish to create. You want to enter:

1/ Fieldname - hidebaronedit

2/ Type - INT

3/ Null - Not null

4/ Default - 0

All the other boxes can be left blank. Now click "Save". All done.  ;)

It seems to be working correctly Les.

It can't be seen by guests, but members can see and comment and there are no errors popping up in the log.

This is strange.

There are no errors in the log and the testmember can access any blog with no problems.

Let me change your membergroup to see what effect that may have...
OK, changed your group to 'Family', give that a try and then I'll change it back.

Might be permissions for the staff group.

Ken, I was going to tell you the same on how to add the fields but with images.

The permissions all seem to correct and it only seems to be Les's account that's doing it. Les, could you ask Lisa to activate her blog to see if it's the same for her?

Steve, what are you saying about the fields and images?

Les, did you try to publish an entry to your new blog yet?

Sorry, yeah I did manage to do it now, I think that the one I did before was to long (as in words/letters) so thats why it sent the blog weird! you should try it with some long text, see what happens.

Be busy getting stuff ready for Lisa B/day

First, select the database (if you have more than one) and then the table in question on the left side of phpmyadmin. I've selected "_battle" database and the "smf_arcade_games" table.

Then at the top right of the same screen, click the "Structure" tab.

You should see a list of all of the fields for that table on the right. Scroll down right below the fields to begin adding your new field. To make things easier I chose a field at the bottom of the screen near where you can add your field. The line you want is shown with the red arrow. As you can see, you can choose to add it at the beginning or end of the of the table as well as being able to chose exactly where to add it.

On the next screen is where you can add the elements of your field. When you are done, click "Save". If you wish to add more fields, select the number of extra fields you wish to add then click "Go".

That's all there is to it. Your new field should be placed exactly where you were instructed to place it.

Sorry, it took so long. Family stopped over. LOL

That makes it much easier to understand.
I have done some db edits before, but have a very low understanding of how to navigate the different panels, this helps a lot.

Thanks Steve.  :2thumbs:
Title: Re: FamilyForum Blogs Re-Activated

No problem. :)

I'm not sure if there should be info in it or not when it is installed or what is supposed to go in it after one creates a blog so it is possible that you might have to run the db installer again.

Looks like we'll be waiting for a while to get a fix for our remaining Blog issues on the date showing up on the wrong day.  :cry2:

It had been over a week since the last post to my help topic over on PortaMx so yesterday I bumped the topic, asking if there was any progress. Today Feline answered me, saying that currently she has not enough time to do an update.
