Presto 08810 Professional Electric Knife Sharpener
« on: September 16, 2022, 11:44:17 AM »
I wanted to upgrade my hand knife sharpener and searched on Amazon and other places. But, while on Amazon I noticed that the electric ones didn't cost a lot and seemed to work better, according to reviews. After some research on various sites this seemed to be the best bet. And it was! There's a lot less work and it does sharpen your knives like a pro!

But you must be careful using the 3rd, left most grinding section, will remove a lot of steel your blades. So only use it if your knives are really dull and need sharpening from a pro. Use the 2nd and 1st sections for fine sharpening only.

Looks to be a good one.

The one I got for Kay back on Aug 15 works, but it dosen't get a blade super sharp.

Hmmm, according to the reviews it should.

The presto does. My knives are sharper than ever! I just have to remember not to use the left side unless the knives have never been sharpened or not sharpened in a long time. It will take off quite a bit of the metal. But , so far, I'm impressed with it. I'm big on removing a lot of the fat from the meats I get, especially because of my high blood pressure which can lead to heart problems. Fat is a major cause of that as well. I shave off as much fat as I can.

My next thing is to sharpen a meat cleaver I got some years agot a flea market and never used because it was very dull. I plan on sharpening it and deboning a chicken to see how well it works. :)

Would love to read your review on that one... and with some pix, please.

Ps: maybe I need to spend more time on the process with our knifes.

Yeah, if they haven't been sharpened in awhile you may need to repeat the process more than once. At least, that 's what it says in the instructions for mine.

Ok, I did sharped it a few times and appears to be very sharp. However, I didn't buy the chicken yet. I also want to get a piece of meat and see how thin I can slice and how easily. I would love to have a cleaver as sharp as the Japanese chefs use. :)

It's not a very large cleaver at all...it's actually quite small by most cleaver standards. I just did a little research on it and  unopened box sell for around $80, at best. It's only a foot long and about 3" at it's widest point. But the handle is is made from real oak and is lacquered very well. :)

It looks just like these:

I have always wished I had a knife sharp enough to cleanly and easily cut through an onion horizontally with one cut without forcing it or using a sawing motion. Now I finally have one! I sharpened my chef's knife and it can finally do it after years of owning that set of knives. I've got to do the rest just like that one.

You can see how easily Helen easily slices horizontally through an onion in this video. My knife can finally do the same.
