Title: PmxBlog Errors in the log.
Post by: Mick on July 14, 2015, 03:32:12 AM
Ken, those errors are back in the log now.  So I'm guessing it's PMXblog and the gallery pro mods causing them.

Mick, you're likely right on both... for sure on the blog mod. I'll have to do some digging to see if a cure can be found on that one, the last time I talked to Feline she basically said that I was on my own because she was no longer working on the mod.
As far as the gallery mod, there have been issues in the past between it and TP, so I'll check out those old conflicts to see if there's any help there.

It's probably PMXBlog. It has never worked right. LOL

Feline no longer supports the PmxBlog, but she did give me a couple of hints on what to fix. So far I'm not figuring out how to put tips to good use.  :o

These errors come up, if the strings not found in the language files ...
PmxBlog was designed for a older SMF release  ;)

I think that a lot of messages no more exists in SMF. Compare the Text files with the previos release and add the missing string im the New Version. more i can not do ...

It hasn't been supported in ages nor has the code or db been properly updated. So, the code is probably too old to really use on this version. As SMF and more mods update their code it will only get worse. Unless you can find someone to take it over...providing they are a good coder.

It's doubtful that anyone would take it over, AFAIK it was never widely used or implemented on forums because the code was always glitchy... and this mostly because Feline has always been difficult to work with and would not take input on fixes needed. She once got pissed at me and I was actually taking her side in the discussion.  :o

I hesitate to take it down because a couple of our members have posted some interesting/important content.

Yeah, I remember Feline when she first came to TP. I've tried the blog back when it was called FelBlog and gave up on it after a few weeks because of support.

Things like this are why I keep looking at other forums, cms' and blogs...for better support across the board.

Yeah, I've looked at many of them as well. I love the 'look and feel' of Wordpress, it's too bad that a solid bridge was never developed for WP-to-SMF.

Actually, I've always held the opinion that the FelBlog was the best concept  neverEVER for an SMF blog... too bad the coding ever lived up to the concept.

EDIT: dangitman! I'm always using words out of context, it should be 'ever', not 'never'.

Agreed.

So far, MyBB and phpBB look the best to me. Both have arcades, blogs, galleries, etc. that a well kept. And the support for the forums and the mods are friendly.

Tis a shame there's no other good blogging mods for SMF.  But I was chatting to bloc the other day, and to be honest I think he's itching to build themes again.

He's also good at creating this blogging stuff. so you never know, he might just come up with something one day. If he does I bet it will look and work fantastic.  We can live in hope. ;)

I try and keep the max amount of mods on my sites down to a minimum, just easier to maintain and keep updated that way, much less hassle. :)

He has talked about this before and has a lot of good ideas... it would be great if he did get interested in pursuing this as a project.

Mick, I tend to be just the other way round with way too many mods. One of my favorite sayings, "Too much is not enough!"
