I'll try your suggestion Ken but in the past I've had no joy with hardware compatibility using Ubuntu. RPM based Linux works best for me, just one of those things I guess for Ubuntu does seem to be popular.
OffTopic? - Not really, W7 looks like a KDE ripoff to me.. :belly:
"looks like a KDE ripoff to me.."
That's funny. :08:
Through the years I've been fortunate I guess... usually when I tried a *new* OS it was on a new PC... that was the case with WinME, XP, Vista and now Win7 and as mentioned by Steve, upgrades seem to be where the most complaints have come from.
With Win7 I'm just getting started on the new lappy, so it'll be a while before I really understand all of the little ins and outs, but thus far I'm liking it OK.
Orakk, on the Ubuntu... I had tried it a little before and liked it OK, but this time around it's working great on the Netbook, as it should because this flavor was designed especially for Netbooks. It's way faster than was the XP Home that came with the Netbook, or the XP Pro that I later tried on it. It's also about 1/2 as big on the HDD and I'm sure that has an impact because the drive is one of the 8GIG solid state types.
The learning curve is not as steep with it as it had been on past versions and that's good because Kay is now using it for some limited amounts of surfing and she is not interested in how it works, but only that she is able to get to the sites that she is interested in.
