Author Topic: Installing the latest SMF 2.1 Beta (Read 2882 times)

I've tried installing this on a test site and can't get it to install at all no matter what I do. I've installed previous versions of it without a problem but the latest is giving me fits. Any ideas?

Is this the 2.1 beta 3 from here, https://download.simplemachines.org/ or a zipped version from the current repo?

Zipped from the repo. Sorry, forgot to mention that part. Should I use the one from SMF instead?

Well really you should use the release version from the downloads site, but saying that I'm not sure how you are supposed to keep up with the changes they are making every day this way. I think they changed some installer stuff on the repo in the last few hours, don't know if this was before or after you grabbed the zip.

When I went to SMF to see what was going on I found this topic and followed it:

I forgot about them adding it it the downloads... I'll use that one now.

I think that's the one I used when they first posted it but tried the github version thinking it would be more updated.

Got it installed but get an error when trying to install a theme. I was hoping to avoid that and at least get it installed then have to play with it. But now I'll probably have to recreate them somehow. I've also read that that images are css-based instead of actual images? I guess I'll have to download the curves2 theme and try to make sense of it.

The theme for 2.1 look more complex to me, I was only just starting to get my head around the old ones, lol.. Actually you could try looking at one of the user created themes for 2.1 and see how they are put together.

I installed one theme, made for 2.1 and then found I was getting errors when going to profile / look and feel. I've since uninstalled that theme but still get the errors. Back to the drawing board.

I'll ask Chen Zhen as his theme look to be original and see if he has any tips. I do know he's been working with 2.1 and a portal for it a lot.

There's not a lot to choose from at SMF. I've got Curves2 downloaded. Now to find out the differences...the hard part. LOL

I'm also noticing that when I try to install something the permissions are all wrong. I do know my server (Docskillz hosting) had issues in the past so I think I should try it on one of the VPS servers instead.

Good idea, he should be able to give you some pointers. By the way where did you get curves2 from?

That is the default theme for 2.1. I just made a copy of it from within the admin (renaming it). Then using cPanel's File Manager, I compressed it, downloaded it, and extracted it on my PC.

Thanks, then I'm already there, I've done that on my local install so was playing with that. Got to do a fresh install again now though, something's not right with it. Wondering if the theme I installed messed it up a bit.

Ok, me thinks something is wrong with the theme installer. I created a new test site on one of my VPS servers. I tried to install a theme from SMF and got an error. So I tried to install a cop of the Curve2 theme I created and it gave me an error! LOL

EDIT: Maybe upload a theme so it will install?

EDIT 2: Ok, that didn't work either! LMAO I'm done for today. LOL
