Windows 10 Release Date
« on: June 01, 2015, 09:17:02 AM »
Windows 10 will be released on July 29th, 2015...so they say. They have pushed back releases before so we'll see...

It is free for Windows 7 and 8.1 users. If you are using Windows 8 (not 8.1) you'll need to upgrade to 8.1 now so you can get it for free when it is released. It is available for  Windows PC's and all of Windows, devices (phones, tablets, etc.) For all others, it will cost $109 for the Home version and $149 for the Professional version.

Those using Win 7 or 8.1 should be seeing a notification announcing it and asking you to reserve a copy. I saw mine this morning and reserved it. If you have not seen it yet, you should very soon. Here's a bit more info on it:

Reserved mine yesterday, although my Win 7 Pc and Laptop will probably stay with 7, as I like Win 7.  My 8.1 PC and laptop will get Win 10.

Had a two paragraph reply almost completed when something (that I did?) dumped the entire thing.  :censored:

Me gonna take a couple of mins and then try again.

OK, me gonna try this again.

For Kay and me it will be a mixed bag, we have two old desktops that have Win-XP on one and Vista on the other, so they stay the same. Then, our two laptops are Win 7 on hers and 8.1 on mine plus my old laptop that is running Win 7 and they will all go to Win 10 when the final version comes out. My Win 8.1 laptop already has 10 installed and I'm liking it much better than 8.1

EDIT: As this is being written my install is getting updated from Build 10122 to Build 10130 and now it wants a restart to finish the process, so this is it for now.  laughing7

I am considering getting another hard drive to mirror the one I bought for the new build in anticipation of Win 10. This will not only give me more space for it but I can then use this one for partitioning it for linux distros, etc. for testing things.

I've thought about doing the same, but just haven't wanted to do the expense of purchasing one.

Yeah, I'm looking at the El Cheapos' for storage. LOL But with my current situation I may not even get one for now.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Steve, try to remain positive and calm... easier said than done of course, but it's the best way if you can.

I wonder if win 8/8.1 software will work on win 10... Those who have obtained copies of certain software may find that it no longer works. Photoshop is no longer made for PC download...it is subscription based now. :P

Cannot speak for all software of course, but we've had no software issues with our three laptops. (all 3 are now running 10)
This includes utilities like NotePad++, VLC media player and others. Programs like M$ Word 2003, ImageBrowser EX(Canon camera), FileZilla and others.
