FamilyForum Blogs Re-Activated! [...again]
« on: February 16, 2014, 08:24:14 AM »
Back in February 2010 I posted that the FamilyForum Blogs had been re-activated... well, me has done it again!  :hah!:
The historical (old) content is still there, so I invite you to read up on what we were doing back then and post to your Blog (or start up) your own Blog if you wish.
... you should see the 'Blogs' button on the top navigation bar.

Enjoy...

The FamilyForum Blogs have been re-activated!

They were off for some time because of the forum software updates we've been going through and I got kind of sidetracked and didn't do the file edits needed to get the blog software integrated into the forum system, but it's all better now.

All FF members are entitled to have your own Blog pages, all you need do is click on the Blogs link at the top of the forum page, select the "Create your Blog" link and then enable your blog as seen in the two screenshots below. There are lots of settings and options for you the play around with, including posting your blog for all to see, or setting it so that only you can see it.

I encourage each of you to give it a try, your entries can be about anything from the serious to the funny... you can read some of my old ones for inspiration if you like.
Enjoy...  Ken

Hmmm, did not know Feline was still doing this. I recently searched for "blog" at SMF and it showed nothing! I need one for my recipe forum. :)

It seems to be working OK, although there a couple of entries in the error logs.

If I remember correctly her code caused some issues with forums that had TinyPortal installed... not sure if that's correct, or if it is still in conflict.

This error is one that is showing, but it's not called 'FelBlog' in the current package, it is called 'PmxBlog'... the issue may be caused by that 'FelBlog' being a leftover from the old (2012) database that I loaded after restarting OFF.

Code: [Select]
http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?action=forum;theme=1
Apply Filter: Only show the errors with the same message
2: include_once(): Failed opening '/home/ourfamil/public_html/FamilyForum/Sources/FelBlogTPinc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php')
Apply Filter: Only show the errors from this file
File: /home/ourfamil/public_html/FamilyForum/Themes/default/TPsubs.template.php(127) : eval()'d code

I figured as much cause I searched for it and didn't see it on the server. So, I extracted the zip and was it was no longer in it.

However, while searching I noticed that quite a few of your tp files had a permission of 666 instead of 644. If that was the case during the installation of the blog (and other mogs) it may have cause things to not properly install.

Umm... those file permissions always gave me fits.  :huh1:

The settings for them were not changed during this current forum activation, except for a couple of times in the Package Manager when the package install would not create a 'temp' folder.
Do we need to change all of those permissions?

Yes, and am changing your files to the correct permissions now. ;)

I can see how this server acts and you will need to make sure they are properly set before you install or uninstall anything to make sure it works.

OK... I'll try to be more careful with Packages installs from now on.

Thanks for taking care of the permissions settings.

NP, done...

Some servers are like that. You have to make sure they are correct first. The server I'm on changes them whenever I do something too but it does not affect anything like this one does.

To change them use FTP or get a SSH account from Frank. That is the easiest and quickest way. ;)

I'll show you how to use it:

Download it from here: http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe

It does not need to be "installed"...just run putty.exe from the folder you downloaded it to. Frank will supply you with user and pass. You will not be able to see what you are typing when you type in the pass!!! 3 failed attempts and the server will block you.

You only need 2 commands, one for files and one for folders and putty will remember what you type. So the next time you use it just tap the cursor up or down keys to see what you've previously typed and press enter when you get to when you need. It acts like linux. ;) Here's the commands:

For folders:

find public_html -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;   - change "public_html" to whatver your server has...may be home/var or something

For files:

find public_html -type f -exec chmod 664 {} \;  - same as above

Both commands will only take secs to run unlike using FTP which can take a few minutes...

Heard from Frank... SSH is not available because of the security he has in place.
