I just saw how anyone can download it now from the Windows site but it may not have all off the device driver updates for your particular PC.

Updating now...

I'm doing the d/l now. If you wanted to do the direct stand alone d/l you must search carefully to find the correct package.

For me it was finding This Page (http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Windows+10+Version+1607+for+x64-Based+Systems) and hopefully clicking on the correct download. (Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4013418))

LOL, that's not it! I just updated to that version too but didn't see the paint 3d program that's supposed to be in it. So, I went to the link you gave and saw this:

"After it’s installed, your device will be running Windows 10, version 1703."

What a mix-up!  :censored:

Anyways... my d/l is stalled out at 1.0gig, I may have to try again tomorrow morning. My isp puts on the brakes after 8AM.  :'(

Yeah, it got me too. LOL

Maybe we need this one first then will get the "Creators". At least, now we know...

Oh, I saw that one. That's the one if you want it now and don't want to wait.

My system has been doing the d/l for about two hours and it' only at 22%!  shocked003

EDIT: Just shut it down... can't let it boil on for 8-10 hours like this.

Had one update yesterday. think I'm on build 1607 atm, will wait for the next one.  Luckily I'm on fibre broadband, so the download part doesn't take long.  The install itself takes longer.   This must be a mare on a slower download speed, but for some reason they think everyone has fast broadband, which isn't the case at all.

Most people on this side of the pond don't have those fast speeds yet although the commercials have been going on about it for years. The worse thing is that you can't get it...it's unavailable to most. I have the same problem with games, they are all going to downloads now instead of on disc. They will lose a lot of business until fast speeds are available because most will not be bothered to download.

My system finally updated, it only took about 10 hours.

Nice. At least it's done now. ;)  I'm not seeing the big update yet.  I'll wait.

My system is set up so that I get notified, but not downloaded or installed and while I've known about the d/l for several days now it took until yesterday before it would go through the whole process. I had d/l'ed the 1gig(+) Package (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewadvanced) and could not get it to install, but using the automatic d/l utility worked.

But, as mentioned, it took 10 or more hours to work through.  laughing7

I haven't been online cause I started the upgrade yesterday morning. It's currently at 91%!!! So, it's still going after more than a day and a half! Not sure why it's taking so long...

In my readings it seems to be this way with everyone. Mine was not as long as yours, but still long enough.   :o

Hope it goes well for you.

Was taking too long so I rebooted and went back to the previous version. I may finish with the install at a later time...

OK, M$ has done away with the setting to disable upgrades. So, I've been rebooting it to stop the process. Then I decided to use the "Restart Options". You will still get the download but you will be able to schedule a date and time for the install. I've set it for the 20th (the latest it allowed me) and for a time that I'm not using the PC...don't have it turned on. This means it can't do it. LOL I'm dying to see what happens...

I'm currently looking for Linux distros to replace Windows. This is getting to be far too much.

Steve, if you just want to have it not download the update, but still be able to use the pc do this and it will not do the download. (unless you tell it to)

That is for WiFi only. My PC is on an ethernet cable for more reliable connections and speed. What I can do is keep resetting the delayed time. It is for up to 5 days (maybe 7). Then you'll be notified it is ready for installation which at that time you can readjust the time again. LOL

Another trick I've learned is to set the time for to a time that I'm never using the PC and it will not be online. This way, even if I forget, it will still ask me before doing it. ;)

At first I thought this Win 10 might be a good thing, but now I actually liked it better when you paid for a disc and then got updates for several years.  :o

With the disc's you can install at will without worrying about updates unless there were bugs and you had to update. I hate games now because they do not package discs anymore (only downloads) but charge you the same price!!!

I've not been into PC gaming for a long time now because I suffered from carpal-tunnel for a while from all my gaming. (used a track/thumb style of roller ball mouse  shocked028)

But, I would also hate to have to d/l games.

I do download a lot of the older ones using gog.com or steam. Those are a lot smaller in size and I get to play ones I'm not able to play any more.

... I may have mentioned this one before.

Here is one that I've always liked, it's not very high class, in fact it's rather crude and it's in black and white, but I like it.  8)

I remember this but doubt I've played it. It's like Quake, which I love, and have most of the those versions so I'll give it a try!

That link installs mandatory addons that may be spyware. This may be a better one:

Some years back someone (one of the Kids?) gave me a boxed set of Quake. For some reason I could never get into it. Still have that set of discs in my stash of games.  8)

Somehow, it updated anyways without my knowledge! When I booted up this morning I saw the screen saying it had updated!!!

There are things M$ is not telling us about how Windows works now if they can update it without your knowledge! It makes you wonder what they really talked about when they had their meeting with Trump!

Time to seriously look at linux options. And speaking of security and privacy, I have a few links I'll be posting about linux and secure/private distros. ;)

Set your preferences to 'metered' connection and see if that will stop it.

Ubuntu has been my favorite for a long time now.

I've set it to that just to see if it works. But I get the idea that it will still do it but more slowly and over time.

I've been looking at a few distros to see what's out there. I got the latest copy of Linux Format magazine and there seems to quite a few new ones out. Most are offshoots from other more popular distros.
