Broken Bits and Pieces!
« on: September 08, 2010, 09:08:38 AM »
Currently we have several broken bits and pieces here on the FamilyForum brought on by upgrades/updates in some of the software that runs the site and how those different software's interact with each other.

One of the more noticeable errors can be found it the Arcade Shoutbox, those two 'Notice: Undefined Index:' errors should not be there:

What happens sometimes is that different Mods can be in conflict with each other, or bits of code get left behind when a Mod is uninstalled and because we do a lot of testing on this site things tend to get a little cluttered after a while.
So, to resolve that and the other conflicts that are causing issues in the forums I'm going to reload fresh files to the site and then reinstall only those Mods that we are using now.

There may be some downtime, but overall you should not see much of an interruption in forum usability. Mainly you may notice a temporary loss of some features, like our custom theme as an example.

The process will start later today.

Thanks... Ken

Good luck Ken. :)

Thanks Brad.

The 'big' stuff is already done.
Loaded a fresh set of SMF2.0 RC1 files and then started reinstalling to larger Mods... TinyPortal v1.0 RC1, SMF Arcade 2.5 RC1, SMF Gallery Pro, etc. Most every thing is working out OK so far, except for that pesky error in the Arcade Shoutbox, not finding a cure for that yet.

That is an error in TP. I'll see if I can find a fix for that to see if it goes away here. Don't know why the shoutbox is showing it though...

I take that back, I don't "think" there's a problem with TP. I think it's the shoutbox mod. What shoutbox mod is it your using?

Sounds good.  :2thumbs:
There is a SMF file management mod in the package manager that you can install if you need to access the forum files.

Thanks Brad, feel free to make adjustments as you see the need.

Looks like there's an error when trying to open a game in the arcade. Looks like missing games and stuff. Can't install the file mod because of errors. Looks like you have a fun road ahead of you Ken. lol I can't even see any shoutbox stuff in the admin. I see a lot of errors for it though. :)

The 'Mochi Media' game hack was not yet reinstalled and that may have caused your issue with gameplay... it's back in now, so when you get a chance try the game again to see if it plays and saves correctly.
BTW... some of the Mochi Media games will not save scores to the forum db, so anytime we find one that won't save we need to remove it. We also get a lot of the games from Underdog's site and I think all of them work correctly.

The file manager is installed now, let me know if you see any more errors with it.

The shoutbox thingie only shows up in a TP block:
http://www.ourfamilyforum.org/FamilyForum/index.php?action=tpadmin;blockedit=194;ca86a01=e3b977bff61f5ed6bedcbc776aad0785
It's the 'nneonneo's AJAX ShoutBox', but it has been recoded a little by Underdog to work in the Arcade.

On the file manager install it gave a test fail for Sources/Subs.php, so I'm thinking, "NP, I'll just do a manual edit for that code."

Trouble is, it's not showing the same code in Sub.php that the xml file is wanting to see.

The xml file is calling for:
Code: [Select]
<file name="$sourcedir/Subs.php">
<operation>
<search position="replace"><![CDATA[ 'show' => allowedTo('manage_permissions'),
),]]></search>
<add><![CDATA[ 'show' => allowedTo('manage_permissions'),
),
'filemanager' => array(
'title' => $txt['fm_adminbutton'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=admin;area=filemanager',
'show' => allowedTo('admin_forum'),
),]]></add>
</operation>

But this code is in the Subs.php file:
Code: [Select]
'show' => allowedTo('manage_permissions'),
'is_last' => true,
),

So... I need to fighre out what to do with the ''is_last' => true,". :up2some:

The "is_last" part indicates that it is the last item of the menu for that part of the menu. After you replace the code it should look like this:
Code: [Select]
                    'permissions' => array(
                        'title' => $txt['edit_permissions'],
                        'href' => $scripturl . '?action=admin;area=permissions',
                        'show' => allowedTo('manage_permissions'),
),
'filemanager' => array(
'title' => $txt['fm_adminbutton'],
'href' => $scripturl . '?action=admin;area=filemanager',
'show' => allowedTo('admin_forum'),
                        'is_last' => true,
                    ),

Installed the edit and the file manager seems to work OK, but there are errors in the log and there is a big white space at the top of the file manager cp page.

Found a discussion on the issue HERE.

Not seeing any kind of resolution though... Arantor is no longer a member on SMF, so I'll have a look on his site to see if any help can be found.

Whoops! Looks like Nas was the mod author, so I'll have to see if he will update or fix the mod.

EDIT: Tried the Package Parser on SMF and it is saying that the package will not work with SMF2 RC1. :opps:

For the blank part of the page, look index.css around line 1690 find the #messageindex section and either comment out or remove the clear: both; section. Test your theme on a few pages to make sure that it doesn't affect any other pages. If so let me know.

It appears to only work in the default theme, but that's OK because I always switch to the default before doing any file work anyway.

You mean it doesn't throw any errors in the default theme? I can view the files just fine in the current Pandora theme.

For me it shows the file manager in Pandora, but the long white space is there:

This is the top...

And then you must scroll a long way down before seeing the files...

But as mentioned it shows correctly in the SMF default theme and that's the one I use when doing any work in the admin cp. I may go ahead and fix it in Pandora anyway.

Me too, your code tip did the trick... Thanks. :bigthumb:

Now my next project will be to get the Arcade shoutbox to work without errors, maybe I can get UD to take a look at it.

And then there's the 'Add And Remove Buttons' and the 'Dream Menu' packages, both were working nicely before but throw test failed errors now when trying to install, might need to do a manual install for both.

There's an error for the arcade. However it's not a critical one and could possibly be an arcade bug. SMF2 has the search feature in the admin to search through the settings to find it. If you use that search it throws an arcade error. Not sure why the arcade is trying to do something on an SMF function like that. May want to bring that up to the arcade guru.

Not following you on the search thing, the only one I know about is the "Find and repair any errors" and it's not throwing an error when I run it.

I must have been in the Admin cp a million times over the years and never paid any attention to that search function!!!
It is good to learn something new... thanks for that lesson Brad. :2thumbs:

When I click on the same search as in your ss shot it dose indeed give me that error:
Quote
Fatal error: Call to undefined function submitsysteminfo() in /home/kenkayjm/public_html/FamilyForum/Sources/ArcadeAdmin.php on line 136

I'm almost to the point of thinking that it would be better to start from scratch and do another complete reload of the SMF files and reinstall all of the mods. :08:

Being able to do a search of the SMF online manual directly from the Admin cp is a handy feature... maybe I'll be able to find an answer to my 'My Messages' count indicator question through that. :bigthumb:

What happens sometimes is that different Mods can be in conflict with each other, or bits of code get left behind when a Mod is uninstalled and because we do a lot of testing on this site things tend to get a little cluttered after a while.

I've noticed that this seems to happen more often that it used to on the RC versions...could also be server related??? So, any time I uninstall something I either check manually to make sure all of the code is removed or do a fresh re-install.
