I like it. Dark themes are not my first choice, but I like the crisp, clean lines.

And So It Begins!

And So It Begins!

For a long time now our metal roofing and the wood siding have looked really tired, with the red paint on the roof fading to the point of almost disappearing and the siding developing spots of rot and rusting nail heads.
So... because I am no longer able to do work like this it means it's time for the Pro's!
These pics will detail some of the 'before' with more pic's to come, the work is scheduled to start in 2-3 weeks.

This photo shows some wind damaged panels on our barn roof, we are getting three new panels to fix that damage.

And a couple shots of the house.

Agreed. Our roof looked like that especially after the huge hail storm a few years ago. It was leaking from the 3rd floor all of the way through to the basement!

Progress Update!
I should have done this before now, but my gitty-up is not gitting up real good lately... was just in to see my Ortho MD this AM for a shot of cortisone in my left shoulder. Maybe me is gonna be able to get around a little better now and, maybe be able to lay of those damn oxy's!

Siding:
They are almost finished with the lower level now, the crew is doing great work and our only complaint so far is the Direct-TV dish... gotta have a tech come out to realign the dish.

Progress Update:

Roofing:
The roofing panels and trim work was delivered yesterday and today at about 9:00AM the roofing crew arrived. As I type this it is about 2:00PM and the upper roof has all of the panels installed and only needs a bit of detail work... these guys are fast!

You're right about not painting the house.
However, now all the doors and windows need to be painted because now they look real crappy next to all that new siding!  laughing7

I'm mostly staying out of their way and I've not mentioned(not even once) that way back in the day I installed vinyl siding on many of our rental houses.  :hah!:

BTW... about the Direct-TV dish:

Turns out that when the crew remounted the disk assembly they placed it too high up on the wall and the upper edge of the dish came into contact with the roof fascia board. That caused one of the adjustment brackets to break. So, when the dish tech came out last night (at about 7:30PM!) he was unable to adjust the dish and in the end he had to remove the entire dish mounting assembly, lower it a couple of feet and reinstall... plus installing a completely new dish!

When I had called Direct TV they informed me that we didn't have a current repair contract with them so the service call would be $100.00 plus parts, or, we could start a new service contract for $7.99 per month, so we chose the monthly of course.

As for the previous mounting location where the vinyl siding crew had placed the mounting brackets... they will need to replace three sheets of vinyl!  knuppel

Starting the day off with a bit of good news is always great!  :hah!:

In the pix below you'll notice a portion of roof that is a couple of feet lower than the garage that's on the right with asphalt shingles and the exposed roofing structure on the left that had been covered in metal. I had asked Josh, our contractor, to give me a bid on that lower portion (it was covered with asphalt shingles) to see if we could afford to add it to the project. That was several days ago and I had not heard back from Josh, so when I went out this AM to check progress I was surprised to see them working on this small section of 'in between' roof. I hurried to the phone to call Josh for some clarification and he said, "I told the crew to check and if we had enough metal they should just go ahead and do the extra spot!

Small Update.
Josh, our contractor, instilled confidence from the beginning, but still, this is a major remodel that is costing some major bucks, so there is always a little worry about the quality of the finished product. This photo goes a long way to reinforce the 'good vibe' we got from Josh. The photo is not greatest, but it shows how well the chimneys rain cap is fitted to the chimney and to the roofing panels it sits on.

BTW... the arrow (below, to the left) points to what would appear to be a screw that's not fastened correctly, but it's actually a tiny leaf that is casting a shadow on the screw.
