Yeppers you heard me right... GrandPa Ken is going to drive some NASCAR!

Full details will be posted soon but for now here's some basic info:

It will be on the 21st of July at Rockingham (NC) Motor Speedway and so far I have seven laps in a for real race car... no co-pilot, just me, the car & that big 1.017-mile oval race track.

GrandPa be having flashbacks already!!!

The official website:
http://www.4raceon.com/

FAQ's from their site:

Are spectators allowed?
Yes, we encourage friends and family members to come out and cheer their participant on. There is no admission charge, but all spectators are required to sign a waiver before entering the pit area.

What can participants bring into the pits?
Participants and spectators may bring cameras, camcorders, and lawn chairs into the pit area. Food, coolers, and beverages may not be brought into the pit area. Alcoholic beverages of any type are prohibited on the premises during Race-On Driving Experience events. Smoking will only be allowed within designated areas in the pits.

What types of cars are in the Race-On fleet?
All of the Race-On cars are NASCAR Busch Grand National stock cars. These are real race cars that were purchased from some of the premiere teams in the NASCAR Busch Series. Our fleet of cars currently includes Chevrolet Monte Carlo's, Pontiac Grand Prix's, and Ford Taurus's.

Ummm... driving school...  :up2some:
Thanks for the idea Mindi!!!

Thanks Tyra... I'll have my very own camera crew so there should be lots of good pics.
As for having a great time... well I have a total of 7 lap tickets, meaning that I get to drive the race car the whole 7 laps all by myself so it will be great fun!
These are actual race cars that have seen action in the NASCAR Busch series and have now been retired and purchased by this company (Race On) and being the real deal they should be capable of speeds of 160-170MPH on the Rockingham track. Of course how fast I go will depend on whether or not my nerve is still as strong as I would like to think it is.  :disted:

We'll see how it goes, my intention is not to just go for a cruise around the track but to drive it like a race car and see how fast I can go. Not to worry though, my plan dose not include doing anything crazy or silly.

Well that's good (doing something crazy).  I wanted to say that, but then what fun is it to drive a Nascar and not go really fast?

Yes, well as I said before my intentions are good but when I'm actually sitting in the car I'll be thinking something like, " This is a once in a lifetime opportunity so we would best take full advantage of this chance!".  :disted:

Of course the fact that I drove a few races in the early '80's there in San Diego on that short track will likely cause me to be a little over confident about my abilities but going through the first turn at speed may take a little of the edge off my enthusiasm. In any case however it works out will be great for me and give me something to brag about after I get to old to drive on the streets.  :bigtmb:

Just discovered that I never posted a 'final' update to this topic!   :08:

The Rockingham adventure didn't turn out too good...
I didn't get to drive at all and the blowing sand that was really bad at the track caused my emphysema to kick in big time and I was sick for days after.
:thud:

But... not to fear, I got another chance at another race track a few weeks later and that turned out great.
Check it out here... 164 MPH
