I like it. Dark themes are not my first choice, but I like the crisp, clean lines.

FamilyForum Changelog:
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:09:36 PM »
In recent weeks we've been doing a lot of 'behind the scenes' work on Our FamilyForum so that it could be brought up to date with current versions of our various software packages, plus cleaning up old files and code to get everything working smoothly again.

Most of the work had been taken care of by Skhilled and he has certainly earned his new Admin badge with all that he's had to do getting it all sorted out.
Good job Steve.  :2thumbs:

The following list will detail some of the packages that have been updated or added.
NOTE: A lot of the work that Steve has been doing involves edits to code and files that are part of the software platform and most of those edits won't get posted in this topic.

Site Packages:
1/ Upgraded site to RC5... 'This Simple Machines Forum' software is the basic foundation of our site and RC5 is the latest version.

2/ TinyPortal RC1 for RC5... TP is the package we use to add 'CMS' like features to the site.

Updated Mods Installed:
Aeva Media 2.012... updated to v2.10.
TinyPic Plug-in 1.0.0

Re-installed the 'reCAPTCHA' registration security Mod... Lately we've been getting lots of spammers signing up for accounts here on the FamilyForum, so I've added some extra security to the registration process to try and keep them at bay.   :08:

We've used it before and it helps a lot, so hopefully it will keep a few of them out this time around.

Here's what the reg screen looks like with reCAPTCHA turned on:

I've been meaning to check on that over here. I've been getting a ton of them trying to register at my site (and at other sites a lot lately) but Stop Spammer and httpBL puts them in Awaiting Approval. I still have to report them and them reject them and was getting up to 20+ per day.  :yikes:

So, I checked my settings and did not have the verification questions turned on. After I turned it on it seem to have stopped them from registering at all...so far.  :innocent:

Most of them seem to be from Russia and have .ru in their email. They are also part of the Xrumer spam group. :P

Looks like the reCAPTCHA has slowed them some.  :bigthumb:

I have reCAPTCHA on one of my sites but one or two still get in. On my main site, I just used the verification questions and do not use questions that require numbers like "What organ human pumps the blood?"...answer "heart".

I haven't had one register or even in awaiting approval for 2 days now. :)

The registrations have let up for now and if you check the ban log it is only showing a few hits, so maybe this wave is about over.  :08:
Of course they'll be back soon enough!

Just discovered that our custom '404 Error Page' got turned off at some point, so I've just re-set it. The problem was our .htaccess file, for some reason the file was blank and it needs a re-direct code in that .htaccess file so that when the 404 error page is called it will show our custom page... it likely happened during on of the updates to our SMF files.
Anyways, it's fixed now.  :bigteeth:
