Title: SMF Mods
Post by: Skhilled on December 23, 2009, 05:25:54 PM
Since I have off work until Sunday night, I've just spend the last 2 hours looking through most of the mods. Here are a few that I thought were interesting and just thought I'd share. In case you guys didn't know about them.

The Rules (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1343) - Add a menu link to a rules page, the agreement.txt, and a custom page. You can see an example of it on my site. Click the "Guidelines" link in the menu.

Moderator and Administrator Comment Tags (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2104) - Makes comments by the staff much more noticeable.

Add To Existing Ban Groups (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2265) - This customization allows you to setup ban groups for the purpose of easily adding to them when banning a member via their profile. Am adding this to my site.

Add IP2Location to Track IP (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1320) - One of my favorite mods that I've used for a few years now. You can find the physical location of your forum members and visitors, what country, what state or province, what city, and sometimes even which part of that city.

Birthday Post (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2026) - Just for you, Ken. ;)

Thanks for the list Steve. :bigthumb:
I had previously seen some of them, but not all.

My take on them:

The Rules; looked at it, probably would not use it but didn't rule it out altogether.

Moderator and Administrator Comment Tags; seen it, but didn't pay much attention... maybe I should take another look.

Add IP2Location to Track IP; didn't know about this one, sounds interesting.

Birthday Post ; didn't know this one either, deff gonna check out this one.  :bigteeth:

For Add IP2Location to Track IP I suggest that you register at the service using the free option. You can get more than 20 free lookups per day. ;)

The Rules are good for those without TP, etc.

I thought I added that one to your site or told you about it a long time ago. I've been using it for about 2 years now. I usually tell everyone about it around this time of year when the spammers come out.

btw, where are they? It's kind of quiet this year so far...

Not sure about the one for bans, don't really see a need for it on this forum, but I'm gonna install it to my test forum to see if it may have other uses.

I've always wanted this but did not know there was a mod for it. Unfortunately, it does not work on RC3...yet.

You could do the install and tell it to emulate RC2.

Yeah, but that doesn't always work...depends on the code and db. I'll probably test it on a test site and see.
